Boko Haram members attacked Daku village in the southern area of the state yesterday and also visited Gumsa village in Yobe where they kidnapped the son of a village head.
Eyewitnesses and security officials say that about 25 people were killed in the attack which occurred at about 11am yesterday and was carried out by about 20 gunmen, some of whom were dressed in military uniform.

Leadership reports:

Those who survived the attack said they saw more than 20 of the gunmen who arrived at the village driving a Toyota Hilux vehicle and a few motorcycles.

The gunmen, according to an official of the Nigeria vigilante, killed about 25 people and set houses and shops ablaze after looting food items.

“They actually targeted food and other supplies during the attack, but they also shot at the people sporadically which led to the death of about 25 people and injuring many others,” said Muhammed Gava, an official of the Nigeria Vigilante who was quoting from a report he received from his members in Askira Uba.

Similarly, the gunmen that attacked Gumsa village in Yobe State were said to be about seven in number who came riding on motorcycles about 3pm Sunday.

“They did not kill anybody but they put fire on the Airtel telecom mast in Gumsa and then went to the house of the village head of Gumsa where they abducted his son and left with him.

We don’t know if he has been rescued, but the soldiers in the town had run after them,” said Mrs Fati Umar, a resident of the attacked village who had to flee to Gaidam town, about 185km away from Damaturu, the Yobe State capital. Gumsa is an agrarian village not more than 30km away from Gaidam.
