The Falconets began their 2014 Fifa U20 Women World
Cup title bid on a rickety note as they forced Cuellar Christopher’s
ladies to a draw in Canada
Nigeria U20 women national team played out a 1-1 draw with Mexico in
their opening group game of the 2014 Fifa U20 Women’s World Cup in
Canada.
The match played at the Moncton Stadium, Moncton, saw both sides show
the zeal to emerge victorious towards making a bright start in the
competition.
But it was the Mexicans that drew the first blood through Fabiola Ibarra in the 23rd minute before Inneh Queens' midfielder Osarenoma Igbinovia drew level for the Falconets with three minutes before half time.
On resumption of the second half, both teams tried hard to get the
winning goal but it would not be as they ended up sharing the points
despite several substitutions.
All teams in Group C now boast of a point each after England and
Korea recorded a 1-1 draw in their opening group game. Martha Harris’
second half equaliser ensured the Asians shared the points against
England.
Peter Dedevbo’s ladies will face Korea Republic in their second game
of the tournament on Saturday at the Moncton Stadium. Mexico will try
England for size in the other encounter.
